The Planning Institute of Jamaica was among the Forest Heroes recognised by the Forestry Department on the occasion of its 80th anniversary in June 2018. The PIOJ has given technical advice to the Forestry Department that has opened up access to funding, and also on policy and planning development. The two divisions whose coordinated efforts led to the support for Forestry were: Sustainable Development and Regional Planning (SDRPD) and External Cooperation Management (ECM).
